What’s The Sequence Of Wedding Reception Messages And Toasts? Top Tips – Marriage Speech Sequence

It is maybe the last thing concerning you as the final preparations for the big day are being addressed.  However, if you are choosing a normal ceremony, it is best that you make sure that the party is aware of the order of the wedding receptions speeches and toasts. 

When are the toasts offered? 

Of course, it is down to you how you want to run your own wedding!  Generally, the primary toasts begin just after the primary course is completed.  This happens before any cake is cut.  On occasion, there is a welcoming toast at the cocktail hour before the marriage dinner.

What's the order of the marriage reception speeches? 

First up is the daddy of the bride who thanks all those for coming.  Naturally he toasts his girl and welcomes the groom into his family. 

The father of the groom (sometimes but not always) speaks for the family, welcomes the bride and tells everyone how lucky his boy is! 

The groom generally next in the order of marriage speeches; His role in the toasts is to thank all those for coming to the event and particularly he can toast his bride.  He also needs time out thank his wedding party and family for all of the help he's received. 

The groomsman or best man is next.  He will customarily tell one or two stories with varying level of humor and sensitiveness about the groom.  This is always the longest toast and in most circumstances the most impatiently awaited. 

Next in the order is the bridesmaid-in-chief, who in an analogous fashion (but with more sensitiveness) will tell the fans how proud she is to be in this role and what a great person the bride is. 

Ultimately, in the conventional order marriage or wedding reception speeches, the bride will take the floor.  She'll re-affirm the thanks her man has given to everybody and will also recognize the help her family, bridal party and naturally husband has given her over the past few months. 

Occasionally, the mother of the bride or even other family members speaks but that is not as common as against the order set out above.
